Why I Decided to Learn Software Engineering

As far back as I can remember I’ve always loved figuring out how tech worked. However, my parents didn’t love it as much as I did when I took apart the desktop computer and put it back together with one less part. Even though I got in trouble a lot for messing with the family’s electronics I’m glad I did it because it created a passion for technology. Eventually, I found less destructive outlets for my passion such as setting up home servers and building my own computers to mess up.

Later on, came the time for me to start thinking about career opportunities, and going into the tech field seemed like a no-brainer. I had always wanted to learn to code but always found myself not having enough time because of my dual enrollment classes in high school or forgetting to do work in free courses due to their lack of structure. I ended up deciding to join Flatiron School after graduating.

I’ve been working in the Software Engineering program at Flatiron for two weeks now and I’m really enjoying it. There are definitely times where I get annoyed after getting stuck on a lab, but the feeling of finally figuring it out makes up for it. I’m excited to see what’s next!
